The youth died in a local hospital Saturday night, several hours after the accident occurred at a test hole drilling site about twenty miles southwest of Sidney. The sheriff's office reported that young Nagengast was employed by Braithwaite and Caldwell of Enid, Okla., a firm which has been doing extensive exploration in this area, presumably oil bearing localities. A test hole was being drilled according to information given the sheriff and the bit had stuck. It was while workmen were endeavoring to loosen the bit that the accident occurred. Young Nagengast received a fractured skull and did not regain consiousness. He had been working on the crew for only six days. A statement issued by Braithewaite and Caldwell yesterday said: "Rudy F Nagengast, Jr., was fatally injured Saturday morning while working on a seismograph shot-hole drill at a point about 20 miles southwest of Sidney. "The accident occurred when a wire line attached to a joint of drill pipe was snared in the rotating mechanism of the drill and swung about the rotating mechanism, striking young Nagengast and causing a besal skull fracture which proved fatal. He was employed by Braithwaite and Caldwell drilling Contractors of Enid, Okla." Born at Dalton March 10, 1929 the youth had spend his life in this community. Besides his parents, he is survived by three sisters, Wilma, Mary Ann and Dorothy, and three brothers, Dennis, Kenneth and Robert. One sister preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held from the Catholic Church Wednesday morning at nine o'clock, Msgr. Anton Link officiating. Interment will be in the Sidney cemetery.
