MILITARY RECORD: Enlisted June 11, 1910 at Dallas, Texas. Served in United States Navy. Had continuous service until July 26, 1926 when he was placed on retired list. Mr. Cobb married Carrie N. Emmons of Chelan County, Washington on August 5, 1920 at Wenatchee. They had a daughter, Ruth Ann (Cobb) Anderson of Port Orchard that was born in 1921. He also had two step-daughters from his wife's former marriage: Neva June Starey and Vita Mae Burke. He died January 18, 1957, age 67, at Bremerton Naval Hospital. He is buried in the Veterans' Home Cemetery. Obituary: Rush C. Cobb, Long-time Navy Man, Succumbs - A winner of three navy good-conduct awards, Rush C. Cobb, 67, Washington Veterans home, died Saturday at U. S. Naval hospital after an extended illness. Mr. Cobb was a chief water tender in the navy. He had seven hash marks in gold, an indication of a military career with no disciplinary action. He was born Sept. 11, 1889, in New Albany, Miss. About 1902, his family moved to Texas. He enlisted in the navy in 1910. In 1920, while he was a recruiting officer at Wenatchee, he and Mrs. Carrie N. Emmons were married. Mr. Cobb was discharged from the navy in 1925, in Bremerton. The next year he started to work in the public works department of Puget Sound naval shipyard. In 1942, he was called back into the navy. He served until September, 1943. In 1944, he and his wife moved to Fresno, Calif. They came back to Port Orchard in 1947. There Mr. Cobb bought a chicken farm which he operated until 1954 when ill health forced him to retire. The Cobbs then moved to the north end of Kitsap county where they lived for about a year until entering the home at Retsil. Mr. Cobb was a member of Fleet Reserve association 138, Retsil, and Orchard Heights Assembly of God church. He is survived by his wife, Carrie; a son, Elmer Emmons of Poulsbo; two daughters, Mrs. Neva Storey of Poulsbo and Mrs. Ruth Ann Anderson of Port Orchard; son-in-law, Carl Burke of Port Orchard; two sisters and four brothers in Mississippi; 11 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren. The Rev. Willard Gregg will officiate the funeral at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, in the Washington Veterans home. Concluding service will be in the World War I section of the Washington Veterans cemetery. Port Orchard Fleet Reserve association will officiate. Funeral arrangements were made by Pendleton-Gilchrist.
