Description	:	Russell Cozine Herbert was born to Ralph Lynch Herbert and Ida Dell Cozine Herbert on a farm just east of the Audubon Airport and south of Audubon, Audubon County, Iowa on November 19. 1907. He had two younger sisters, Helen Marie Herbert who married Peter C. Hansen, and Jean who died in infancy. Russell married Mary Wright on 22 April 1946. Mary passed away on 29 January 1953. The couple had no children. Russell was very close to his sister Helen and her extended family, especially the family left behind when Helen's brother-in-law Walter M. Read More	Russell Cozine Herbert was born to Ralph Lynch Herbert and Ida Dell Cozine Herbert on a farm just east of the Audubon Airport and south of Audubon, Audubon County, Iowa on November 19. 1907. He had two younger sisters, Helen Marie Herbert who married Peter C. Hansen, and Jean who died in infancy. Russell married Mary Wright on 22 April 1946. Mary passed away on 29 January 1953. The couple had no children. Russell was very close to his sister Helen and her extended family, especially the family left behind when Helen's brother-in-law Walter M. Hansen died in the polio epidemic. Russell served 3 1/2 years in the Air Force in World War II in the China-Burma-India area. After being discharged, he worked for 28 years at the First State Bank which later became the Audubon State Bank, retiring in 1975. Russel was very active in the Odd Fellows Lodge, having served for over ten years as Grand Treasurer of the Grand Lodge of Iowa. He was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Audubon. Russell was known for his wit and humor, his kindness, and his generosity. Among the things he liked to do for others was baking pumpkin bread and delivering a loaf to everyone on his "list" during the holidays. He had quite a long list! He also made one of his favorite foods during the holidays--Christmas pudding, a baked pudding with lots of brown sugar and decorated with candied cherries. Russell enjoyed working with wood with his father, creating lamps and other items on a lathe, building toy cupboards, doll cradles, toy barns, and wooden toys which of course he gave to others. He really liked to see others happy. Russell passed away 11 December 1990 and is buried in the Arlington Heights Cemetery, in Audubon, Iowa.
