Read More	Russell John April, 66, of Slater Street, Attleboro, died on Tuesday, June 16, 2009 at his residence surrounded by the love of his family with the same dignity and faith in which he lived his life. He was the beloved husband of Janet Doris (Raymond) April to whom he was married at St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church in the Dodgeville section of the City of Attleboro on April 18, 1964. Born in Attleboro, Massachusetts on December 13, 1942, Mr. April was the son of Doris J. (Holehouse) April of Attleboro and the late John Joseph April. He was a lifelong resident of his native city and was a graduate of Sacred Heart Academy in Central Falls, Rhode Island. He earned an associate's degree in liberal arts from Dean Junior College in Franklin. A lifelong communicant of St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church, Mr. April received all of his sacraments at the family parish. A man of strong religious and spiritual beliefs, he was an active member of the church community for decades. In his youth he served as an altar boy and in adulthood was a tireless volunteer, having served as an usher, CCD teacher, Eucharistic Minister, choir member and member and president of the C.Y.O. For decades, Mr. April was a devoted and dedicated member of St. Vincent de Paul Society. He served as the past president of the Attleboro District and was the Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer of the Central Council of the Fall River Diocese. For his numerous selfless acts of charity, Mr. April was awarded the prestigious Top Hat Award on April 22, 1990 and once again on July 24, 1991for outstanding Vincentian service and following in the foot steps of Frederick Ozanam. On August 22, 2007 he was honored for his Jubilarian anniversary with the St. Vincent de Paul Society. He was the recipient of the Marian Medal award from Bishop Sean O'Malley in recognition of personal dedication and loyal service to the parish and Diocese. Mr. April was employed as the general manager of New England Plastic Coated Products in Norton for 18 years until illness forced his retirement in 1996. Previously, he was employed as a purchasing agent for companies in Attleboro, North Attleboro and Providence, Rhode Island. He leaves a legacy of a loving husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend to many. An action oriented man; he devoted his life to his family and church. Times spent gardening and playing golf were among his favorite pastimes. In addition to his wife of 45 years and his mother, he leaves a son: Mark R. April and his wife, Alicia C. Coughlin, of North Attleboro; a daughter: Karen A. April and her husband, David P. Dragun, of Attleboro; three grandchildren: Wesley R. April of New Port Ritchie, Florida; Stephen M. April of North Attleboro and Christopher C. April of North Attleboro; a brother: Robert N. April and his wife, Anne E. (Maxwell) April, of Attleboro; three nieces and extended family members and countless friends who supported him through the challenges of illness. Family and friends are invited to the Funeral Service on Saturday, June 20, 2009 at 7:45 AM from the "Memorial Chapel" of the Dyer-Lake Funeral Home – the national historic Colonel Obed Robinson Home, 161 Commonwealth Avenue (exit 5 off I-95 N or S, go right at end of ramp, ¾ mile on left), Village of Attleboro Falls, North Attleboro followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 9:00 AM at St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church, 683 South Main Street – Route 152, Attleboro with the Rev. James Morse, Pastor, officiating. The funeral procession will proceed via foot to St. Stephen's Cemetery for graveside services following Mass. Children's room available during both visitation and the funeral service. Following cemetery services an invitation will be extended to join the family for a time of continued fellowship and refreshments at a location to be announced.
