Description	:	Georgetown Times March 3 1960 Russell M Doar of Woodside Dies Services Held Sunday Russel Middleton Doar 80 of Woodside Plantation died Friday in the Georgetown County Memorial Hospital. He had been ill for the last week. Funeral services were held Sunday in Prince George Winyah Protestant Episcopal Church. Officiating was the rector the Rev. E Irwin Hulbert. Burial was in the churchyard. Mr. Doar was born July 18 1879 at South Island a son of the late Thomas Watts Doar and Mrs. Maria Middleton Doar. He was the grandson of Nathaniel Russel Middleton, one of the founders of the Carolina Art Assn. and a former president of the College of Charleston. Mr. Doar was educated at the Old McKinney School and at Porter Military Academy in Charleston. Following the death of an older brother he returned to the family home Woodside Plantation and planted rice there until the storms of 1916 wrecked the fields. For some years he was manger of the Kinloch Gun Club, retiring a number of years ago to devote his full time to his interest at Woodside Plantation. Mr. Doar was one of the last surviving member of Marion's Men of Winyah and was a member of the Prince George Winyah Protestant Episcopal Church. Surviving are the widow the former Miss Sally Smith of Mt. Pleasant and several cousins.
