Description	:	Georgetown Times June 31 1965 Services held for Mrs. Sarah Doar who died Sunday Mrs. Sarah Williams Smith Doar widow of Russell Middleton Doar died unexpectedly Sunday night at Richmond Plantation Lodge where she had lived for some years. Funeral services were held Wednesday in Prince George Winyah Protestant Episcopal Church. Officiating was the Rev. Allan Mustard. Burial was in the churchyard under the direction of Mayer Funeral Home. Mrs. Doar daughter of the late Samuel Porcher Smith and the late Henrietta Palmer Smith was born in Mt. Read More	Georgetown Times June 31 1965 Services held for Mrs. Sarah Doar who died Sunday Mrs. Sarah Williams Smith Doar widow of Russell Middleton Doar died unexpectedly Sunday night at Richmond Plantation Lodge where she had lived for some years. Funeral services were held Wednesday in Prince George Winyah Protestant Episcopal Church. Officiating was the Rev. Allan Mustard. Burial was in the churchyard under the direction of Mayer Funeral Home. Mrs. Doar daughter of the late Samuel Porcher Smith and the late Henrietta Palmer Smith was born in Mt. Pleasant on February 7 1889. She was graduated from the Confederate Home School in Charleston and attended Winthrop College. Then she entered the Nursing School of Roper Hospital in Charleston, from which she graduated. After graduation she was associated with the Nurses Corps she carried a division of Mayo Nurses to serve in France. After the was she entered Western Reserve College in Cleveland Ohio to study Public School Nursing and became the first such nurse in the Spartanburg City Schools. In 1925 Mrs. Doar came to Georgetown to work with the Department of Public Health. She and Mr. Doar were married October 15 1927 and lived at Woodside Plantation on the Santee a Carolina Rice Plantation until Mr. Doar's death in 1960. She was a devoted member of Prince George Church. Mrs. Doar was an active volunteer and board member of the Georgetown Chapter of the American Red Cross for 20 years. Survivors include twelve nephews and nieces and numerous grand nephews and grand nieces.
