Russell Counsell, five-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Counsell, living near Little Rock, was drowned in a small creek half a mile east of that town about 5:30 p.m. on Sunday afternoon. Johnny Kruger, five-year-old son of Mr. and Mrs. John Krueger, near whose home, the tragedy took place, was with young Counsell at the time, and in some way entered the water that had trapped his companion. When discovered about six o'clock by Elsie Fisher, who was crossing a bridge near there, young Krueger was nearly drowned. He was taken to his home, where aid was given to him, and where he told of the fate of his playmate. Searchers at once returned to the creek, where at the bottom of the sinkhole near the bridge, the body of Russell Counsell was found. He had evidently been playing at the edge of the creek, and had fallen in. In his struggles to escape, he has drowned. The Counsell's had been spending the afternoon at the Krueger's home, and the two young boys had gone with Mr. Krueger to bring up the cows. On the way home Mr. Krueger had taken a shortcut through the cornfield. The boys follow the lane and in passing the creek stopped to play. When Mr. Krueger returned to his home the boys had not been seen, and a search was made for them. However they could not be located, and the first trace of them was secured when Fisher brought the young Krueger boy to the house. That little fellow was unable to explain how it all happened, aside from the fact that they got too close to the water's edge. The creek in the plot where the drowning took place, is very shallow, as a usual thing, and more resembles a slough than anything else. However on Sunday it was considerably raised by the rains, and the water is coming from the north, which have swollen all streams in the neighborhood. Funeral services will be held today, from the Counsell home, near Little Rock, and interment will be in the Little Rock Cemetery.
