He was born in Swanville, March 22, 1918, the son of Nellie(Riley) and Charles Thayer. He was very active in the Waldo County 4-H Club. He raised chickens and was an avid gardener. He is survived by six sons, Charles Thayer and his wife, Pearl of Winthrop, Terry Thayer of Winthrop, Greg Thayer and his wife, Lynn of Florida, Paul Thayer and his fiance, Karen of Virginia, Wayne Thayer and his wife, Vicky of Brewer and Gary Thayer and his wife, Terri of Warren; five daughters, Marrily Steverson and her husband, Earland of Thorndike, Carole Carson and her husband, Charley of Montville, (Betty) Nellie Farris and her husband, Rick of Belfast, Patricia and her husband, Tim of Florida and Cheryl Smith and her special friend, Larry of Knox; a sister, Gertrude Eams and her husband, Andrew of Florida and a brother-in-law, Henry Page of North Carolina. He is also survived by 26 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 26, 1999, at Rackliffe Funeral Home, 54 Church, Belfast, with the Rev. Matt Shaw officiating. Interment will be at the Greenlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 23, 1999. Those wishing to make memorial contributions in Russell's memory may do so to the 4-H Club, Waldo County Extension Service.
