Mahan Bumgarner was born June 1, 1901, in Abington, Ill., to parents Wilson and Minta Harrod Mahan. She was united in marriage to Byron L. Bumgarner, June 18, 1918. Mahan Bumgarner was born June 1, 1901, in Abington, Ill., to parents Wilson and Minta Harrod Mahan. She was united in marriage to Byron L. Bumgarner, June 18, 1918. Ruth and Byron very happily spent their 56 years of marriage on the farm one half mile south and one half mile west of Strang. To this union were born two children, Lucille and Donald. She spent many years working with the United Brethren church and Women’s Society of Strang. In later years Ruth and Byron both became members of the United Methodist church of Geneva. Ruth passed away at the Fillmore County hospital at Geneva, Saturday, February 15, 1975, aged 73 years, 8 months and 14 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Grace Mahan Turner, and a brother Leland Mahan. She will be sadly missed by her husband, Byron; daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Art Evans of Omaha; son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Bumgarner of Lincoln; three grandsons; two great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services were held at the United Methodist Church in Geneva at 2:30 p.m. Monday, February 17, 1975, with Rev. John E. Stayton officiating. Tom Bumgarner, vocalist sang “How Great Thou Art” and “Beyond the Sunset,” accompanied by Mrs. Willard Foster on the organ. Pallbearers were Homer Bumgarner, Earl Houck, Mervell Bumgarner, Lowell Messman, Leland DuBois and Lawrence Wattles. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery. The Nebraska Signal 20 February 1975 page 5.
