Description	:	Byron LeRoy Bumgarner was born to Leander (Cash) Bumgarner and Lora M. Foster Bumgarner on June 28, 1897, on a farm west of Geneva, and passed away on February 19, 1983, at Geneva at the age of 85 years, seven months and 22 days. Read More	Byron LeRoy Bumgarner was born to Leander (Cash) Bumgarner and Lora M. Foster Bumgarner on June 28, 1897, on a farm west of Geneva, and passed away on February 19, 1983, at Geneva at the age of 85 years, seven months and 22 days. He was one of six children in the family. Two of the children died in infancy. About four years after Byron was born, the family moved to a farm one and one-half miles west of Strang. Byron attended White Temple country school, and then graduated from Strang High School, which was a tenth grade school at that time. On March 1, 1918, Byron moved to a farm one-half mile south and one-half mile west of Strang and resided there until his death. He farmed all of his life, through the good and the bad farm years. He joined the Odd Fellow Lodge in Strang, and was an active member until he was physically unable to climb the stairs to the lodge hall. He was a member of the Strang School Board for many years. He and his wife Ruth were active in all community affairs and belonged to the United Brethren Church in Strang. They later moved their membership to the United Brethren Church in Geneva, which united with the Methodist Church. Byron was an avid fan of the softball teams of Strang. The managers and teams always included Byron in all their activities, which enriched his life to be part of these nice people. Byron was married to Ruth A. Mahan of Strang on June 18, 1918, and to them two children were born. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one sister and by his wife Ruth in 1975. He is survived by his son, Donald and wife Goldene of Lincoln; his daughter, Lucille and husband Art Evans of Sioux Center, Ia.; three grandsons, three great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Byron dearly valued the friendship of the community he was a part of for 65 years. Funeral services were conducted from the United Methodist Church in Geneva, on Tuesday, February 22, 1983, with the Rev. Donald Marsh officiating. Mrs. Norval Lomax accompanied Thomas Bumgarner who sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Beyond the Sunset." Pallbearers were Mervell D. Bumgarner, William E Eich, Earl Houck, Wayne Matejka, Gordon Polinoski and Larry Wattles. Interment was in the Geneva cemetery. The Nebraska Signal 24 February 1983 page 9.
