She was the sixth child of seven children born to Enoch and Elizabeth Ann (Fries) Wright on a farm southeast of Early. She grew up in the Lake City and Schaller areas. Ruth married Ronald Fifield August 24, 1922, and after traveling to California and living there for two years they moved back to Alta where their only child, Lois Fifield Jacobson, was born. Ruth and Ronald then moved to Schaller and made it their life-long home. The Fifields owned and operated Fifield Motor Company and John Deer Implement Company and were active in the town's activities. After Ronald's death, Ruth became a nurse's aide at the Buena Vista County Hospital in Storm Lake. Ruth was a member of the Schaller Presbyterian Church and belonged to numerous clubs and organizations, including being a 50-year member of the Eastern Star, during her long and productive life. She enjoyed playing cards, gardening, and the great outdoors, including fishing and hunting. The light of her life was her great-grandchildren. She always had open arms and a loving hear for them. During her 92 years of life she saw and lived through all the modernization of this century, from Model T's to men on the moon. She became an independent, modern woman who was a caring, kind, giving person and will be greatly missed by all that knew her. Ruth died July 29, 1997 at the Methodist Manor in Storm Lake. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Ronald in May of 1964, and five brothers: Linus, Ray, Paul, Melvin and Lester Wright. Leaving to mourn her are her daughter, Lois and Elmer Jacobson of Schaller; two grandsons, Ronald and Sue Jacobson of Schaller and Randy and Cindy Jacobson of Storm Lake; five great-grandchildren, Troy and Joanne Jacobson of Schaller, Travis and Shelly Jacobson of Cambridge, Tammy Jacobson of Spirit Lake, Mindy and Jason Stoltzfus of Iowa Falls and Brandon Jacobson of Storm Lake; one sister, Ruby Marrington of West Des Moines; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.
