Description	:	Ruth Gambrell Hicks, 97, of LaFrance, widow of Hoke S. Hicks, died Saturday, April 12, 2008 at the Rainey Hospice House. Born January 5, 1911 in the Zion Community of Anderson County, she was the daughter of the late James Edward and Bertie Outz Gambrell. She was retired from LaFrance Riegel Corporation and was a homemaker. Mrs. Hicks was a member of Barnette's Grove Pentecostal Church where she taught Sunday School for many years. Surviving are a daughter, Ann Phillips and her husband, Grady of Anderson; a son, Richard Hicks and his wife, Pat of Pendleton; granddaughter, Myra Harper and her husband, Tommy of Anderson; two grandsons, John Phillips and his wife, Kim of Anderson and Glenn Hicks and his wife, Helen of Charleston; four great grandchildren, Hillary Harper, Thomas Harper, William and Matthew Phillips; and a sister, Inez Evatt of Orangeburg. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Jessie Barnette, and brothers, Ossie, Clarence, Paul, Dewey, Ed, and Henry Gambrell. Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Sullivan-King Mortuary, Northeast Chapel, conducted by Rev. Bob Hicks and Dr. Stoney Abercrombie. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
