IT WAS PAINTED IN 1880 TWO YEARS AFTER HER DEATH, THE PREVIOUS PORTRAIT OF HER IS THE SAME DRESS WAS DONE YEARS EARLIER. THIS ONE CHANGES HER EXPRESSION SHOWING MORE HAPPINESS. She was the daughter of Frances and Ann Porter and born in Vermont. Unknown when her family came to Manchester, but she was a well respected school teacher when she met and married Edward L Custer, they married May 3, 1864. Her cause of death was from consumption.
