Quinn, 90 years of age, of Oxford, passed away on Thursday, August 20, 2015 at the Good Samaritan Society – Colonial Villa in Alma, Nebraska. Ruth was born May 20, 1925 on the family farm north of Oxford in Furnas County, Nebraska, the eldest of three children born to William August and Alice Lillian (Loose) Fandry. She received her primary education from Oxford Public Grade School and then graduated from Oxford High School with the class of 1943. Ruth then pursued a career as a beautician, and attended the Hastings Beauty Academy in Hastings, Nebraska, where she graduated in 1944. On December 15, 1945, Ruth was united in marriage to Howard Raymond Quinn and to this union four children were born: Jean Ann, Raymond Eugene, Jo Anne, and Clifton A. The family made their home in Oxford and Almena, Kansas, where Ruth operated her own beauty shop out of her home, which was called Ruth’s Beauty Shop. Ruth continued to operate the beauty shop for 31 years. She was then employed by Becton-Dickinson in Holdrege until 1991. Ruth was then employed by Ampride in Oxford for five years prior to her retirement in 1997. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard on January 24, 2001. Ruth was a member of the United Methodist Church in Oxford, where she was involved in the Friendship Circle of the United Methodist Women. Ruth loved being active in her community, she volunteered at the Thrift Shop in Oxford and was a long-time member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Eastern Star. She enjoyed playing cards, socializing over a cup of coffee and just being around friends. She also spent many hours tending to her flower gardens. Her fun-loving spirit and sense of humor will always be remembered. She was often referred to as “Yellow Bird”, which was a nickname that was given to her in reference to her yellow car. Ruth could often be heard from across the room in a crowd of friends or family, as suddenly a “Whoop De Doo” captured everyone’s attention. Besides her husband, Howard; Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Raymond Eugene in infancy; one daughter, Jo Anne Murphy; three grandchildren, twins: Raymond and Anthony Murphy and Kealan German; one brother, Robert Fandry; one sister, Rogene Mae Fandry at the age of three; and a host of brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law on the Quinn side of the family. Ruth leaves to celebrate her life; her two children: daughter, Jean Ann Wilson and her husband, Royce of Almena; one son, Clifton A. “C.A.” Quinn and his wife, Dana of Manhattan, Kansas; eight grandchildren: Marty Wolfe (Charlie) of Alma, Monica Wilson (David Riemann) of Norton, Matt Wilson (Kim) of Garner, Iowa, Eli Murphy (Mollie) of Greenville, SC, and Justin Murphy (Daniel’le) of Easley, SC, Molly Murphy (Claire) of Chicago, IL, Christa Quinn-Prideaux (Brandon) of Highlands Ranch, CO, and Casey Quinn of Ft. Collins, CO; eleven great-grandchildren: Cristee Sharpnack (Nick), Kai Wolfe, Carson Wolfe, Katelyn, Tyler, and Sidney Wilson, Garrisyn Murphy, Haylee and Mya Murphy, Jaden and Brooke Prideaux; three great-great grandchildren: Zoe, Skyler, and Lexi Sharpnack; sister-in-law, Betty Buttman of Del Norte, CO; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. A memorial has been established in Ruth’s honor which will establish a scholarship for a Cosmetology Student to further their education. The Mitchell-Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home of Oxford was in charge of the arrangements.
