Ruth was preceded in death by: husbands, Herman Eklund and Rexford Peterson; son, Don Eklund and stepson, Jerry Peterson. Survivors are: son and daughter-in-law, Bob and Linda Eklund of Grand Island; daughter-in-law, Julie McMeekin of Albion; six grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, one stepgreat-grandchild; stepsons and stepdaughters-in-law, Dan and Yvonne Peterson and family of Peoria, Ariz., Randy and Kay Peterson and family of Shelby; stepdaughter and stepson-in-law, Debbie and Gaylen Schmoker of Shelby; stepdaughter-in-law, Marlene Peterson of Shelby and a host of other relatives and friends. Ruth graduated from Osceola High School in 1937 and then taught District 61 Crackerbox country school west of Osceola. On Aug. 21, 1943, Ruth was united in marriage to Herman Gust Eklund. To this union two sons were born, Don and Bob. In the late 1950's, Ruth began working at the ASCS Office in Osceola, retiring in the early 1980's. On May 28, 1972, she was united in marriage to Rexford H. Peterson. They resided in Shelby until she moved to the Osceola Good Samaritan Society on Aug. 30, 2005, where she resided until her passing. She was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Osceola and was active in many of the church's activities. She enjoyed quilting, knitting, crocheting, baking and cooking. She was also preceded in death by sisters, Frances I. Carlson Sandell and Margaret Buresh. Published in The Grand Island Independent on 6/12/2010
