Description	:	Ruth E. Popken, 72, Le Mars, former Craig area resident, died Saturday, March 7, 1992, at Matney Colonial Manor in South Sioux City. Services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. John's American Lutheran church in Le Mars. Rev. Gary Landsness officiated. Burial was in St. John's Lutheran church cemetery at Craig, under direction of Mauer-Johnson funeral home in Le Mars. Mrs. Popken was born March 4, 1920, in Ireton, daughter of Will and Hannah (Nienaber) Boisen. She married Ernest John Popken Feb. 9, 1939 in Ireton. The couple farmed in the Craig area until retiring in 1970, and moved into Le Mars. Mr. Popken died Oct. 3, 1987. She was a cook at Floyd Valley hospital and Senior Center in Le Mars. Mrs. Popken was a member of St. John's American Lutheran church in Le Mars. She taught Sunday school and was active in ladies' groups while a member of St. John's Lutheran church in Craig. She was a Plymouth county 4-H leader of Grant Clever Clovers for 15 years. Survivors include three daughters and their husbands, Evelyn and Donald Nelson of Newcastle, Neb., Elaine and Harold Fader of South Sioux City and Donna and Richard Klaasen of Omaha; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a brother, Glenn Boisen and his wife, Annie of Pipestone, Minn.; and three sisters, Helen Abbey, Neva Kircher and her husband, Lee and Bernice Eilts and her husband, Raymond, all of Hawarden. She was preceded in death by her parents; and infant granddaughter; two brothers, Harvey and Orin; and a sister, Lois Miniets. Akron Register Tribune Thursday, March 12, 1992 Akron, Iowa
