Description	:	Ruth Esther Bertsch, 98, of Miller, passed away Sunday, July 18, 2010 at the Miller Good Samaritan Center. Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, July 22, 2010 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Miller with Pastor Bob Ohnstad officiating. Burial followed at the St. Lawrence Cemetery. Visitation was held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 21, 2010 followed by a 7:00 p.m., prayer service at Reck Funeral Home in Miller. Read More	Ruth Esther Bertsch, 98, of Miller, passed away Sunday, July 18, 2010 at the Miller Good Samaritan Center. Ruth was born June 29, 1912 at Delmont, South Dakota to Gustav and Annette (Trottnow) Freitag. She was the seventh of fourteen children. At the age of four, she moved with her family to a farm at Kaylor, South Dakota. She completed her early education at Kaylor School. On August 22, 1937, she married Ed Bertsch and they made their home in Menno, South Dakota until 1940 when they moved to the St. Lawrence area. In 1943, they moved to a farm one mile north of St. Lawrence. Ed and Ruth had two children, Janice and Ron. Ruth assisted her husband on the farm and worked as a store clerk in St. Lawrence and Miller most of her adult life. Ed passed away on June 13, 1978. In 1979, Ruth moved to Miller and in February of 2003, she became a resident of the Miller Good Samaritan Center. Ruth and Ed were faithful and active members of Trinity Lutheran Church in Miller. Ruth's memory will be cherished by her daughter, Janice Manning of Miller; son, Ron (Jan) Bertsch of Yankton; seven grandchildren; six great grandchildren; two step great grandchildren; four step great-great grandchildren; one brother, Rudy Freitag of Miller and one sister, Leona Dunlap of Gresham, Oregon. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband; great granddaughter, Amy Manning; seven brothers; four sisters; and one son-in-law, Artie Manning.
