Description	:	During the first minutes of June 6, 2013, Ruth E. Beard, surrounded by her family at Billings Clinic, left this world to be with her heavenly father. Born to James G. and Lela E. Morris, Ruth began her earthly journey in La Junta, Colo., Feb. 23, 1921. The family moved to Montana in 1925 joining the Huntley Project community. Read More	During the first minutes of June 6, 2013, Ruth E. Beard, surrounded by her family at Billings Clinic, left this world to be with her heavenly father. Born to James G. and Lela E. Morris, Ruth began her earthly journey in La Junta, Colo., Feb. 23, 1921. The family moved to Montana in 1925 joining the Huntley Project community. She attended school at Fly Creek, Corinth, Anita and graduated from Huntley Project High School in 1939. Her education continued through 1941, graduating from Eastern Montana Normal School in Billings. After completing her education, she transitioned to educating the next generation, teaching two years north of Pompey's Pillar, one year at Charlo, and two years in Bridger. Then, she met her friend and husband Bill (William) Beard. They were married at Pompey's Pillar, Dec. 24, 1945. One year later, Bill and Ruth settled on her Sanborn grandparent's homestead near Ballantine, and lived the rest of their lives there. Ruth raised four kids while helping out at the beet dumps, and delivered mail for the U.S. Postal Service. She grew amazing flowers, frequently volunteered at the Pioneer Museum, and loved to play cards. Ruth is preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her three siblings, Dorothy Scammon, Roberta Stallings and Donald Morris. She is survived by her four children and their spouses: Ken and Penny Beard, of Ballantine; Jerry and Lila Beard, of Belgrade; Sheri and George Harmon, of Lawton, Okla.; David and Susan Beard, of Sheridan, Wyo. She is also survived by nine grandchildren, two step-grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, three step-great-grandchildren; and numerous nephews and nieces. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, June 11, at Smith West Chapel in Billings, 304 34th St. W. Her interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. A reception will be held in the Huntley Project community afterwards. Memorials in Ruth's name may be made to the Ballantine United Church of Christ, or Yellowstone County Council on Aging.
