Ruth was born in Merna, NE to Henning C. and Fredericka M. (Reid) Johnson on November 13, 1915. Ruth attended grade school at District 77 (East Table) and later graduated from Merna High School in 1932. Johnson, 96, was welcomed into the arms of her Heavenly Father the morning of June 4, 2012 surrounded by her loving family. Ruth was born in Merna, NE to Henning C. and Fredericka M. (Reid) Johnson on November 13, 1915. Ruth attended grade school at District 77 (East Table) and later graduated from Merna High School in 1932. She married Dwight Cole and they had four children; Clifton (Kim) Cole, Spokane Valley WA; Larry Cole, Alliance NE; Robert (Cheryl) Cole, Broomfield CO; Ann (Dan) Kinser, Alliance NE. Over the years she lived in Merna, NE, Deadwood and Edgemont SD, finally settling in Alliance NE. She and Dwight were divorced and she married Vernon C Johnson in March of 1968. Ruth began taking music lessons when she was 5 and was a highly accomplished pianist. She was an accompanist from her early age playing the pump organ. She was the church organist for worship services and many choirs over time. As a member of the United Methodist church for over 70 years she enjoyed such roles as the Director of Christian Education, Sunday school teacher, and worked as the church secretary from 1960 to 1970. She also worked as a supervisor for 10 years at Woolrich after which she retired. Ruth taught well over 100 students piano, organ or accordion. Playing the piano was a passion for her and she played for many functions, not only church but also for community programs and she visited many nursing homes to share the joy of her music, bringing back many memories when playing her fox trots and lively dance tunes. If she didn't know a piece she would learn it as she did for her granddaughter once learning the complex piece ‘Fur Elise'. Ruth was a fabulous seamstress and very proud of her ability to make most anything including most of her own clothing. She learned later in life to quilt, she took writing classes and wrote a book of her life growing up on a farm. She never stopped trying to learn new things and always kept such a positive outlook on everything life threw her way. Ruth was preceded in death by: husbands, son, Robert Cole, daughter-in-law, Linda, parents, four sisters, a brother and two great grandchildren. Ruth is survived and loved deeply by: children; Larry, Clifton and Ann, daughters-in-law, Cheryl and Kim, son-in-law, Dan; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Inurnment was in the Alliance Cemetery, Alliance, NE.
