Jackson, 73, of Riverton, Nebraska died Thursday, May 12, 2016 at the Franklin County Memorial Hospital in Franklin, Nebraska. Funeral services are pending. ========= Ruth Irene Jackson, the daughter of Cecil (Young) and Howard Thompson, was born May 29, 1942 at Superior, Nebraska. She departed this life on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at the Franklin County Memorial Hospital in Franklin, Nebraska at the age of 73 years, 11 months and 13 days. Ruth grew up at Superior and received her formal education attending the Superior schools, graduating with the class of 1960. She was united in marriage with George LaVerne "Stonewall" Jackson on May 25, 1960 at the United Methodist Church in Red Cloud. This union was blessed with two daughters and two sons. They lived for a time at Red Cloud, McCool Junction and Arapahoe, returning to Superior in 1964. Ruth was employed with Wheelers and then with the Superior Police Department. In 1979, the family moved to Hastings to live. Ruth worked with the K-Mart Store while living there. Her husband died on March 4, 2003, and in 2007, she moved to Riverton to make her home. While raising her family, Ruth volunteered her time as both a Girl Scout Leader and a Cub Scout Leader. She was an Avon representative for a number of years and enjoyed time spent with her many customers. She was also a member of the Eagles Lodge. In her leisure time Ruth enjoyed gardening, collecting owls and playing the piano. Her love for her family was immeasurable and she especially cherished the time they were together. She was a dedicated and loving Grandma and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, a sister, Kay Thompson and an infant brother, Charles Thompson. Left to treasure her memory are her children: Kiley Bera of Grand Island, Nebraska; Kelly Steiger of Hastings, Nebraska; Keith Jackson of Riverton, Nebraska and Leighton "Chuck" Jackson and wife, Sheri of Hastings; 13 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren; two sisters, Pam Riley and husband Bill of Superior, Nebraska, and Dayle Woods of Hazelhurst, Georgia; other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be held Monday, 2:00 p.m., May 16, 2016 at the Williams Funeral Home in Red Cloud with Rev. Audrey Beaty officiating. Interment will be at the Evergreen Cemetery in Superior. Visitation will be held Saturday and Sunday, 8:00 a.m. - 8:00 p.m., and Monday, 8:00 a.m. to service time.
