Mintzlaff Sichterman, 92, Rapid City, SD passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2021 Ruth was born on February 18, 1928 to William and Jessie Overcast in Mountain View, MO. Her family moved to Montana when she was just 6 weeks old. Ruth was the 5th child of 9 children. After she graduated high school, she worked as a dental assistant before moving to Rapid City. While in Rapid City visiting her sister, she met and married Ervin Mintzlaff. They were married on December 24, 1948 and spent the first few weeks of their marriage snowed in out at the ranch near Hermosa during the blizzard of ’49. Ruth and Ervin survived on hunting prairie chickens and a bag of flour until Ervin could ride a horse into Hermosa to get more food. Ruth and Ervin built their house in 1950 and continued to grow their ranch family. Ruth enjoyed living out on the ranch an spent her time as a homemaker and helping in the fields when needed. She loved branding time and enjoyed feeding everyone who came to help. Ruth also loved baking and was known for her sweet treats that she liked to make and eat! Ervin and Ruth were married until his passing in March of 1986. To their union they were blessed with 3 sons: Larry, William “Bill”, and Daniel “Dan”. Ruth was active in her boys’ activities and often was the parent driver to and from sporting events. She enjoyed watching baseball and kept up with her favorite teams. After the passing of Ervin, Ruth met and married Richard “Dick” Sichterman on September 2, 1989 where she gained another family with Dick’s children: Sharon Eddy, Aleta Olson, Dick Sichterman Jr., and Don Sichterman as well as their families. Dick passed away on February 9, 2011. She was a devoted Christian for all her life, living in the image of Jesus. She enjoyed her daily devotions at the assisted living facility. Ruth and Ervin were founding members of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Hermosa where Ruth taught Sunday School and was an officer in the church. She later attended Bethel Assembly of God with her second husband, Dick. Ruth is survived by her son's and their families,2 sisters, sister-in-law, as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren ,many nieces, nephews, and great friends. She was preceded in death her husband, Ervin Mintzlaff; second husband, Dick Sichterman; son, Larry Mintzlaff; siblings, Bill Overcast, Louis Overcast, Carl Overcast, Henry “Lee” Overcast, Ruby Schleuning, Olive Everett, Llyod Overcast, Boyd Overcast, Franklin Overcast, Irene Saunders, Glen Overcast, Marie Holden, Virgil Overcast; and grandchild, Christopher Jackson. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established for Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Hermosa. Cards for the family may also be sent to Kirk Funeral Home. Visitation will be Monday, February 22, 2021 from 5:00-7:00pm at Kirk Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 23, 2021 at 2:00pm at the funeral home with Pastor Deb Grismer officiating. Masks are required to be worn if you plan to attend the service. A live stream will be available on the Kirk Funeral Home website. Burial will follow at Highland Park Cemetery in Hermosa, SD. Family and friend may sign Ruth’s online guestbook at www.kirkfuneralhome.com
