Description	:	Ruth L. (Lueking) Schoen, 99 years of age, of rural Oxford, passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at Holdrege Memorial Homes in Holdrege, Nebraska. Ruth was born October 15, 1918, on the family farm near Avoca, Nebraska, the seventh of eight children born to Fred and Emma (Hunterman) Berner. She was baptized on February 2, 1919, and confirmed May 7, 1933 at the First Lutheran Church in Avoca. She received her education from Avoca Public Schools, and graduated from Avoca High School. (Lueking) Schoen, 99 years of age, of rural Oxford, passed away on Thursday, November 16, 2017 at Holdrege Memorial Homes in Holdrege, Nebraska. Ruth was born October 15, 1918, on the family farm near Avoca, Nebraska, the seventh of eight children born to Fred and Emma (Hunterman) Berner. She was baptized on February 2, 1919, and confirmed May 7, 1933 at the First Lutheran Church in Avoca. She received her education from Avoca Public Schools, and graduated from Avoca High School. On August 28, 1938, Ruth was united in marriage to Milton Lueking and to this union two children were born: Kay and Roger. The family made their home on the farm north of Oxford, where Ruth worked side-by-side on the farm with Milton. She was also a wonderful cook, taking many meals to the field. In March of 1965, she was preceded in death by Milton. On February 25, 1972, she was united in marriage to Franklin Schoen. They enjoyed farming and traveling together. Ruth was an avid gardener, and loved her flower beds. For many years, she delivered eggs to town. Ruth continued to raise chickens, and garden until she was 95 years of age. In her spare time, Ruth was a talented quilter, and enjoyed embroidering. She lovingly created countless quilts, which she shared with her family. Throughout the years, she also enjoyed many friendship bonds formed in card clubs. One of her favorite holidays was Halloween, which she was famous for her popcorn balls, and homemade soup ready for the evening. She was a devoted member of the St. John’s Lutheran Church, where she served in many capacities including teaching Sunday school, and catechism. This past October, on the 20th she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank. Besides both of her husbands and her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by, her daughter, Kay Haag and husband, Bernie; one great-granddaughter, Alexis Arauza; two brothers: Henry Berner and his wife, Fern and William Berner and his wife, Josephine; four sisters: Mary Knake and her husband, Henry; Clara Rietch and her husband, Walter; Viola Koester and her husband, Herman, and Gladys Koester and her husband, Arthur; sister-in-law, Norma Berner; and brother-in-law, Raymond Samuelson. She leaves to celebrate her life; her son, Roger Lueking and his wife, Judy of Oxford; two step-sons: Steven Schoen and his wife, Kim; and Michael Schoen and his wife, Charlene all of Oxford; twelve grandchildren: Dawn Haag, Monica Lueking, Marcia Carlson and her husband, Jeremy, Misti Soderlund and her husband, Tracy, Michelle Haag, Mindy Lueking, Monte Lueking, Matthew Schoen, Cody Schoen, Derek Schoen, Abby Schoen, and Mandy Schoen; fourteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Dean Berner of Syracuse, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Sharon Samuelson of Pueblo, Colorado; along with extended family and many friends. Funeral Services for Ruth L. (Lueking) Schoen will be held on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Oxford, Nebraska with Reverend Wes Hafner officiating. Interment will follow at the Oxford Cemetery. The Mitchell-Nelson-Bauer Funeral Home in Oxford is in charge of the arrangements.
