Read More	Ruth Leticia Remington Billings, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, departed this earth to spend eternity with her husband John, parents, brothers, sisters and our Heavenly Father. On Dec. 2, 1918, Ruth came into this world. She grew up in the small coal mining and ranching town of Belt, east of Great Falls. Ruth was raised by her parents and five brothers and sisters, attending the local schools, simultaneously developing an early and profound curiosity and affinity for nature, as well as diversity of outdoor activities. These interests resulted in numerous adventures with sister Daphne, amid the hills surrounding Belt throughout the 1920s and ‘30s. From 1928 through 1932, summers were often spent with the entire family, including numerous pets loaded in and on the Studebaker, making the long trip up to Glacier Park, the North Flathead, Bowman Lake and the "cabin" near Polebridge. Pertinent and frequent adventures throughout the period were repeated in the 1960s, when Mom brought husband John and sons John and Judson back to the vicinity, local haunts and abundant fishing. It was in June of 1966 that the family purchased our cabin southwest of Red Lodge, Clearly, it was no coincidence that love of nature and memories from the 1920s and ‘30s were renewed. Paramount was her love for academic pursuits. Ruth matriculated at the University of Montana, Missoula, and in 1941, received a Bachelor Degree in Education, with a Major in English. Subsequently, she began a career in teaching, proceeding to Buffalo, Cut Bank and Fromberg high schools. Discussing the substance of literature with students was her passion. She was a staunch advocate and defender of quality writing. In 1980, Ruth retired as English Department Head at Lewis and Clark Junior High, where she taught for 21 years. During the summer recess of 1942, Ruth met her future husband, John Galen Billings, the recently arrived music teacher in hometown Belt. She recalled his splendid debut as trumpet player from above the "M" during University of Montana football games, and sensed a pre-destiny. The inevitable result was a splendid marriage of 59 years, as John passed away in May of 2004. Mom was gracious, accommodating and compassionate. During the most trying times, Mom summoned a God-given strength in her own quiet way. Her inspiration had a ripple effect upon those around her, viably sustaining family and members through the most severely trying of events. Approaching the last chapter of her life, even if Mom could have spoken, she would not have found adequate words to express gratitude for the love, care and affection she received at Adult Home Care Services. Her friends Melissa, Nancy, Ethel and Krista extended themselves beyond measure, sustaining her youthful happiness with love and hugs. Her spirit resounded in song to the end. Ruth is preceded in death by her husband, John G. Billings, and is survived by older son John R. Billings, younger son and daughter-in-law Judson L. and Jeanette Billings, grandchildren Natasha and Oscar and by loving sister and lifelong companion, Daphne Hansen. The funeral service will be at 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 7, at Smith West Chapel, with interment to follow at Mountview Cemetery.
