She was born January 24, 1916, to Samuel and Ivah (Leatherman) Haslam in Arma Kansas. She was graduated from Arma High School in 1933 as Valedictorian and President of the Girl’s Reserve. Read More	*Ruth Lillie Haslam* Butler (24 January 1916 - 18 May 2016) * Ruth Lillie Butler Ruth Lillie (Haslam) Butler, aged 100 years, 4 months, died on Wednesday, May 18, 2016 after a short illness in Atlanta, GA. She was born January 24, 1916, to Samuel and Ivah (Leatherman) Haslam in Arma Kansas. She was graduated from Arma High School in 1933 as Valedictorian and President of the Girl’s Reserve. She also was granted a diploma from Pittsburg Business College. She lived from her birth until 2001 (at 85 years) in Arma and Pittsburg, Kansas. Since that time she lived briefly in Wilmette, IL and most recently in Atlanta, GA. On December 26, 1937, she married Melford Preston Butler, who preceded her in death on March 23, 2000. Ruth worked as a bookkeeper for several organizations, and built a small independent business as an income tax practitioner. She did much to build Christian values and capabilities of family and friends. Both Ruth and Melford were very active in the Assembly of God church in Pittsburg, where she acted as church treasurer, taught church school for high school youth, and led youth activities. Subsequently she and Melford were active in the Open Door Fellowship church and Cornerstone Church, both located in Pittsburg. At the time of her passing, she was a member of Smoke Rise Baptist Church in Stone Mountain, GA. Ruth is succeeded by four children: M. Daniel (Carol J.) Butler of Grand Rapids, MI; Edward A. (Betty S. Humbard) Butler of Stone Mountain, GA; John C. (Suzie S.) Butler of Woodstock, GA; and Joyce B. (Craig E.) Wahlgren of Wilmette, IL; eleven grandchildren: Rebecca M. (Jeffrey) Ulrich, Rockford, MI; Brian C. (Valerie) Butler, Medford, OR; Jason W. (Ellen) Butler, Goodyear, AZ; S. Christine (Steve) Parham, Lawrenceville, GA; Paula B. Kay, Stone Mountain, GA; Gregory A. (Elena) Butler, Atlanta, GA; Julie A. (James) Scott, Oak Grove, MO; Jane A. (Bryan) Shepard, Kansas City, MO; Jonathan J. Butler, Johns Creek, GA; Allison H. Wahlgren, Park Ridge, IL; and Emily G. Wahlgren, Grand Rapids, MI. She has twenty great-grandchildren: Justin D. Ulrich, Olivia K. Ulrich, Jacob M. Butler, Clara R. Butler, FloraMina B. Butler, Rebecca C. Butler, Daniel E. Butler, John R. (Heather) Parham, A. Nichole (Jordan) Lopes, Tommie B. Kay, Casual E. Kay, Jacob S. Chernoff, Grady P. Butler, Carson C. Butler, Chase Scott, Morgan L. Scott, Carley J. Scott, Jillian L. Shepard, Charles R. Shepard and Landon J. Butler Widmer. She had much impact on each member of her family, and her many friends. She provided concerned support for many, and is sadly missed by all who knew her. She is preceded in death by her parents Samuel and Ivah Haslam, and siblings Pearl (Haslam) Laughlin, Frank Haslam, John Haslam and Samuel Haslam. Graveside services and burial will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Highland Park Cemetery. A memorial service will be conducted also on June 11 at 12:30 p.m. at the First Church of the Nazarene, 816 East Quincy, Pittsburg. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in memory of Ruth Butler in support of missions at Cornerstone Family Church, 405 S. Locust, Pittsburg, 66762. These may be left at or mailed to the Brenner Mortuary, 114 E. 4th St, Pittsburg, KS 66762. Friends may leave condolences online at www.brennermortuary.com.
