Description	:	Ruth M. Nielsen, 92, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Jan. 11, 2011, at St. Francis Medical Center, Grand Island. Ruth was born July 16, 1918, on a farm near Hampton to Ervin and Leonie (Meisner) Hilligas. Ruth grew up in Hampton and received her education at Hordville Public School graduating with the class of 1937. She attended two years of College in Central City, and later taught school for two years outside of Fullerton. She was united in marriage to Alvin H. Nielsen, April 28, 1940 in Papillion, Nebraska. Ruth was born July 16, 1918, on a farm near Hampton to Ervin and Leonie (Meisner) Hilligas. Ruth grew up in Hampton and received her education at Hordville Public School graduating with the class of 1937. She attended two years of College in Central City, and later taught school for two years outside of Fullerton. She was united in marriage to Alvin H. Nielsen, April 28, 1940 in Papillion, Nebraska. The couple made their home in Omaha and in Nuckolls County outside of Superior where they farmed. The couple later moved to Lincoln where Ruth worked at Bryan Hospital as a Nurse's Aid and then to Ashland where they retired. Mr. Nielsen preceded her in death on February 22, 1993. She enjoyed gardening, fishing, football, reading, but her true joy was being in the field on the tractor. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Alvin H. Nielsen, son, Raymond Nielsen, brothers, Glen & Loyd Hilligas, sisters, Lily Johns, June Robinson, Lela Hilligas. Survivors are: son and daughter in law, Alvin "Butch" & Linda Nielsen of Lincoln, daughters and son in law, Shirley A. Nielsen of Grand Island and Patricia & Dean Prochnow of Lincoln, eight grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends. Published Grand Island Independent 1/12/2011
