Description	:	Ruth Mae Fleming was born in Denison, Iowa, February 16, 1917, the daughter of James D. and Lillie I. Carlson Fleming. She spent her early years in Denison before being graduated from the Odebolt High School. She then attended the University of Minnesota where she graduated with her Registered Nursing Degree. Read More	Ruth Mae Fleming was born in Denison, Iowa, February 16, 1917, the daughter of James D. and Lillie I. Carlson Fleming. She spent her early years in Denison before being graduated from the Odebolt High School. She then attended the University of Minnesota where she graduated with her Registered Nursing Degree. Following her education she was employed in Public Health Nursing in Sioux City, Iowa. During World War II, from May 23, 1945 until her discharge August 13, 1946, Ruth Mae served her country as an Ensign in the United States Navy. Upon her discharge she returned to her Public Health Nursing Position in Sioux City. In 1951, Ruth Mae was recruited to move to San Antonio, Texas, where she was the founding director of the Visiting Nurses Association which she operated until her retirement in 1983. She spent her retirement years in San Antonio where she was a 51 year member of the Madison Square Presbyterian Church. In 2006 Ruth Mae moved to Chandler, Arizona to be closer to family and was a member of the Mission Del Sol Presbyterian Church. Ruth Mae's life was focused on her nursing career. Ruth Mae died Tuesday morning, July 7, 2009, at the Desert Cove Nursing Center in Chandler, Arizona. At the time of her death she had been blessed with 92 years, 4 months and 11 days. Including her parents, Ruth Mae was also preceded in death by her brother, Paul J. Fleming and her sister, Charlotte Missimer. Those remaining to cherish her memory include one niece and five nephews, Jim Missimer of Tempe, Arizona, Anne Nadel of Chandler, Arizona, David Missimer of Erial, New Jersey, Don Missimer of Pine Hill, New Jersey, John Fleming of Savage, Minnesota and Bill Fleming of Rochester, New York, other relatives and friends. Graveside funeral services and interment were held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, July 12, 2009, at Odebolt Cemetery, Odebolt, Iowa, with the Rev. Mark Volkers officiating.
