Obituary - Ruth Rotert, age 86, of Carroll, died early Wednesday morning, December 22, 2010 at the Carroll Health Center Nursing Home. Mass of the Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Wednesday, December 29, 2010 at St. Lawrence Church in Carroll. The Celebrant will be Fr. Timothy Schott. Lector will be John Boeckman. Gift Bearers will be Martha Pauley and Catherine Wittrock. Eucharistic Ministers will be Lorraine Hoffman, Jean Knobbe, and Pat Sanders. Musicians for the mass will be Marcy Anderson and Shari Schulte. Casket Bearers will be: Tony Meiners, Leon Rotert, Ron Brincks, Don Pauley, James J. Pauley, and Benjamin Lammers. The Carroll Catholic Daughters of Americas and the St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary will form an honor guard for the funeral mass. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery at Carroll. Friends may call at the Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll after 3:30 p.m., Tuesday where there will be a rosary at 4 p.m., by the Carroll Catholic Daughters of Americas, followed by a Christian wake service by the parish at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening. Born on February 3, 1924 at Carroll, Iowa, Ruth Marie Rotert was the daughter of Gerhard and Mary (Schachtner) Lammers. She spent her lifetime in the Carroll community and attended SS. Peter and Paul Schools through the 8th grade. Ruth was married to Bernard Rotert on September 7, 1948 at SS Peter and Paul Church at Carroll, Iowa, by Fr. Lambert Schenkelberg. Following their marriage the couple made their home in Roselle where Ruth was a cook at Holy Angels School. In 1964 they moved to Carroll and she was employed in the Dietary Kitchen at St. Anthony Regional Hospital until her retirement. She enjoyed cooking, baking, growing flowers, and attending family reunions. Ruth was a loving wife, sister and aunt, and took great interest in the activities of her large extended family. She had many dear friends, and was generous in giving her time to visit the sick, prepare funeral dinners, volunteer for several charities, and quietly look after the needs of others. Mrs. Rotert was a member of the St. Lawrence Parish, Parish Ladies Guild, Carroll Catholic Daughters of Americas, Carroll American Legion Auxiliary, St. Anthony Hospital Auxiliary, Rug Maker's Club, and was active with the Funeral Dinner Committee at St. Lawrence Church. Survivors include; one brother; John Lammers and his wife Virginia of Pinehurst, North Carolina; sisters-in-law: Nadine Lammers of Rockwell City, Mary Haverman of Carroll, and Kay Lammers of Carroll; as well as many nieces and nephews and other extended family. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Bernard Rotert in February 1993; four brothers: George, Clarence, William, and an infant brother, James.
