Rotert, 72, of Carroll, died Monday, Feb. 1, 1993, at St. Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll following a long illness. Mass of the Christian burial will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 4, at St. Lawrence Church in Carroll. The celebrant will be Father Robert Gralapp. Burial will be at Mount Olivet Cemetery in Carroll with military honors conducted by the Carroll American Legion. The lector for the Mass will be Julie Rotert. Gift bearers will be Anna Greving and Mary Haverman. Eucharistic minister will be Bernice Bluml. Casket bearers will be Tony Meiners, Leon Rotert, Tony Rotert, Harold Rotert, Larry Greving and Leonard Hoffman. Visitation will begin at 2:30 p.m. today at Sharp Funeral Home in Carroll. Rosaries will be recited at 3 and 8:45 p.m. today. There will be a Christian wake service at 8 p.m. today by St. Lawrence Parish, and there will be a Moose memorial service at 7 p.m. today at the funeral home. Born Feb. 11, 1920, at Roselle, Mr. Rotert was a son of Henry and Bernadine (Starman) Rotert. He spent his younger years in the Roselle community and attended Holy Angels Schools. In September 1942 he entered the Army and served in the European African Middle Eastern Theater during World War II. He was honorably discharged in June 1944. After his return from the military he owned and operated a livestock trucking business. On Sept. 7, 1948. he was married to Ruth Lammers at Sts. Peter and Paul Church in Carroll by Father Lambert Schenkelberg. Following their marriage the couple made their home in Roselle, where Mr. Rotert owned and operated Ben's Place Tavern. In 1959 he began operating the Welcome Inn in Carroll. He operated that business until 1969. From 1969 until his retirement he was a bartender for the American Legion Club in Carroll. The couple moved to their home in Carroll in 1964. He was a member of St. Lawrence Parish in Carroll, the Parish Men's Club, the Carroll Moose Lodge and Maurice Dunn American Legion Post 7. Mr. Rotert is survived by his wife, Ruth, of Carroll; a brother, John Rotert of Halbur; two sisters, Anna Greving of Carroll and Mary Haverman and her husband, Lawrence, of Carroll; two sisters-in-law, Marie Rotert of Lidderdale and Nadine Lammers of Rockwell City; a brother-in-law, John Lammers of Cyprus, Calif.; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Henry, Joe and Bernard, as a child; and three sisters, Catherine Meiners, Elizabeth Hoffman and Johanna Rotert.
