She passed away Wednesday, January 15, 1997, in Lincoln, at the age of 76 years and 26 days. She was baptized at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church on January 16, 1921, by Pastor George Gundel. She passed away Wednesday, January 15, 1997, in Lincoln, at the age of 76 years and 26 days. She was baptized at Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church on January 16, 1921, by Pastor George Gundel. Her baptismal sponsors were Marie Andersen and Mary Schleif. September 27, 1936, she was confirmed by Pastor Albert Jungmeyer at the same church near Superior, Nebraska. Ruth was graduated from Superior High School in May 1938 and later received her Bachelor of Arts Degree from Kearney State College and her Master of Arts in Education Degree from the University of Nebraska in Lincoln. Choosing teaching as her life's profession, she taught for 42 years in rural schools in Nuckolls County, at Hardy and Ruskin, and Gresham, Nebraska, and the lst (sic) 31 years at Beatrice, Nebraska, retiring in May 1983. Previous to moving to Beatrice, Ruth was very active in church and community affairs. Ruth was co-chairman of the Beatrice Bicentennial Steering Committee observing the 200th birthday of American and also co-chairman of the Town Hall 76 meeting for the Bicentennial. She initiated action for the Beatrice Chautauqua in 1976 and Beatrice Fine Arts Council. Ruth was recipient of the professional category of the Salutes to Women's Award presented by the Women's Division of the Beatrice Chamber of Commerce in 1976. In 1977, she received the Nebraska Woman of Achievement Award from the Nebraska Business and Professional Women's Organization. Ruth was a member of the Business and Professional Women's Organization, Beatrice Area Retired Teachers' Organization, Beatrice Winter Lights Committee, Beatrice Federated Women's Club, St. John Lutheran Church and Rebekah Circle of the Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Preceding her in death were her parents; two brothers, Alvin and Theodore; and one sister, Meta Bargen. Left to mourn her passing are two brothers, Leo and his wife Vivian of Davenport, Nebraska, and Vern of Phoenix, Arizona; two sisters, Emma Jacobsen and her husband Sego of Hoisington, Kansas, and Esther Fritz of Lincoln, Nebraska; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services were held Saturday, January 18, 1997,at 2 p.m. from Megrue-Price Funeral Home chapel in Superior, Nebraska, with Pastor Michael Osberg officiating. Music was "I Know That My Redeemer Live's" and "The Lord's My Shephard" with Mark Butler as soloist and Carlita Price as organist. Pallbearers were Shawn Schleif, Greg Brazil, Brent Meyer, Steve Sorenson, Gary Holling and John Overing. Interment was in Nelson Cemetery.
