Born August 28, 1929, in Cumberland, MD, she was the daughter of the late Charles Henry and Linnie Louise (Miller) Buckle. She was also preceded in death by both husbands, Robert O. Glotfelty and Dino DiPaolo; a son, Dr. Scott Glotfelty; three brothers, Wayne, Donald and Jack Buckle and two sisters, Marian Rode and Jane Raupaugh. Born August 28, 1929, in Cumberland, MD, she was the daughter of the late Charles Henry and Linnie Louise (Miller) Buckle. She was also preceded in death by both husbands, Robert O. Glotfelty and Dino DiPaolo; a son, Dr. Scott Glotfelty; three brothers, Wayne, Donald and Jack Buckle and two sisters, Marian Rode and Jane Raupaugh. Mrs. DiPaolo was a secretary for Harbison-Walker Refractories and Maryland Department of Vocational Rehabilitation. She was a member of Emmanuel Lutheran Church and the Women of the E.L.C.A., a board member of Garrett County Processing and Packaging Corp., started by her late husband, Robert O. Glotfelty and on the board of directors for Garrett County Memorial Hospital, Garrett County Department of Social Services and Garrett Lakes Arts Festival. She was director for 20 years and secretary of the Garrett County Fair and served as Vespers Committee Chairperson, a founding and charter member of the Grantsville Business and Professional Women in 1985 and in 1994 she was awarded Women of the Year. Also a member of Republican Central Committee and a life long Maryland Terp basketball fan, she oversaw the Dr. Scott Glotfelty Humanitarian Award to graduating seniors at Northern Garrett High School and Garrett County 4-H. She was active in the operation of her family's Dairy Farm, "They received recognition in this pursuit six times, receiving 'Farming for Better Living' award in 1966". She was active in the Farm Bureau for 47 years and edited their first county newsletter. She participated in 4-H activities. She volunteered for Hospice Auxiliary and Bittinger Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary. Ruth was inducted into the Garrett County Women's Hall of Fame. Throughout her lifetime, she enjoyed discovering new things, bowling, fishing and traveling. She played an active role in the lives of her children and her grandchildren and instilled the value of education and lifetime learning in them and was ever present in their lives. She is survived by two sons, Rodney Glotfelty and wife, Marci, Bittinger; Barry Glotfelty and significant other Lisa Sheirer, Mountaindale, MD; two daughters, Joan Sussman and Carol Bass and husband, W. Kevin, all of Bittinger; ten grandchildren, Robert E. Glotfelty, Blakely Glotfelty, Darryl Glotfelty, Elliot Glotfelty, Claire Sussman, Caitlin Sussman, Meredith Sussman, Matthew Bass, Scott Bass and Emma Bass. Friends will be received at the Newman Funeral Homes, P.A., 179 Miller St., Grantsville on Sunday from 7-9 p.m. and Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Services will be conducted in the Emmanuel Lutheran Church on Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at 11 a.m. with Rev. Donald C. Thomas officiating. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the services. Interment will be in the Bittinger Cemetery.
