Ch., then located within the confines of the Town of Windham, Conn., Ruth m. as his 2nd wife, William Cushman, s. of Josiah Cushman and Susanna Shurtleff, b. Feb. 26, 1723/24 at Plympton, Mass. William already had by his first wife Sarah Holloway at least five, possibly seven, children b. at Plympton, Mass. before relocating to Connecticut. By Ruth's marriage were b. four additional children of the Cushman family recorded at Brooklyn, Conn., but incorrectly given in the printed Barbour vital records of Brooklyn, Conn. under the surname of "Cashman." • i. James Cushman, b. Dec. 23, 1776, d. Nov. 11, 1829 and is interred at Mt. Holly, Burlington County, NJ (g.s.) • ii. Peter Robinson, b. May 14, 1779. • iii. John Cushman, b. Sept. 7, 1781. • iv. Robert Waterman Cushman, b. Oct. 29, 1784. The subsequent descent, if any, from these four children is problematic when based on the 1917 Shurtleff Gen. For that reason no additional data has been shown for these sons until further research has been completed. Yet, the same Shurtleff Gen. contains errors regarding the ancestral family of William Cushman's 2nd and 3rd wives. Since more persons are apt to read this memorial than a 100+ year old printed genealogy, to prevent the errors in the following portion of the 1917 Shurtleff bio for William Cushman be repeated, such errors are shown in italics. Jan. 9, 1795, aged 88 yrs.; dau. of Samuel and Elizabeth (Thacher). Peter Robinson, b. 1697; d. in Windham, Conn., Mar. 22, 1785; son of Peter and Experience (Manton), who d. Apr. 30, 1735, aged 55 yrs. and dau. of John. Peter Robinson, bapt. 1665; d. in Windham early in 1740; son of Isaac and Mary, who were m. 1649/50. Isaac Robinson, b. 1610; d. 1704; son of John and Bridget (White). Rev. John Robinson, b. 1575; d. in Leyden, Holland, Feb. 19, 1635 (Mar. 1, N. S.); son of Nicholas (b. 1530) and grandson of Nicholas (b. in Boston, Lincolnshire, Eng., 1480). • 1. Experience, the 2nd wife of Peter Robinson, Sr., was the dau. of Jedediah Lumbert and Hannah Wing. See FAG 21245659. • 2. Peter Robinson, Sr. has no recorded date of birth or baptism and his mother was not named Mary. See FAG 43471896. • 3. Rev. John Robinson was b. in the year 1576 and d. Mar 1, 1624/25 as the date is historically written in the modern English (Gregorian) calendar. As the Dutch converted to the Gregorian calendar prior to the year 1600, he died at Leiden, in the Dutch calendar Mar. 1, 1625. The date Feb. 19, 1635 in the Shurtleff sketch is based on the erroneous assumption that in 1752 when the English converted from the Julian to Gregorian calendar, any date prior to September 2, 1752 had to have upwards of 11 days deducted to be correct, which was and is absolute nonsense. • 4. Rev. John Robinson was b. at Sturton Le Steeple, Nottingham, England, the son of John Robinson, a yeoman of that same place. The claim that he was the son of a Nicholas Robinson is based on the erroneous assumption in the 1800s that John's father was someone of civil, political or religious importance, thus authors went searching for a potential father of importance and published erroneous sketches in English and American Biographical dictionaries. In addition, the claim by Burgess in 1925 that Rev. John Robinson was the grandson of a Christopher Robinson has no basis in fact. Who his paternal and maternal grandparents were remains unknown and likely never will be known. Edited 12/4/2015
