She was named for her grandmother Rutha Knotts Pynes wife of Daniel Pynes (First Citizen of Gordon, Al.) She was one of seven children. Rutha did not handle this arbitraty action in a passive manner and was quite outspoken. She was the mother of 9 children of which 7 were living in the 1900 U.S. Census. Her children: Oscar W.(m.Amanda E.McNeal), Mary Lou Ellen (m. William J.McNeal),Zebulon M.C.(m. Elizabeth Goldon), Norma Barto (m.Alexander Clinton Stephens), James O.(m.Trudy Johnson),Francis Frank (m. Mollie Feat), John Wesley (m. Anna Walding),She was a hard working Southern wife who suffered greatly as a result of the war. She and husband John Jackson Baxter are at rest in Friendship Cemetery. Rutha's parents are buried in Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Harmon Community near Gordon, AL
