She peacefully passed away on July 10, 2018 at the Perkins County Community Hospital, Grant, Nebraska at the age of ninety-two. As the oldest in their bustling family of ten children, Mom was a kind motherly sister to her younger siblings. When she was twelve years old, the family felt the lure of the north country and available homesteads. Mom formed lasting friendships in the Crooked Creek, Alberta community. A highlight during this time was when Mom found the Lord and was baptized at the age of twelve years. When Mom was seventeen years-of-age, the family made another move, this time to Linden, Alberta. Albert Baerg took note of her and soon Bert and Vi knew they were made for each other. They were married on June 16, 1946 in Linden, Alberta. Six children arrived to fill their home with love, song, and laughter. After years of operating a business, Dad moved the family to a Nebraska farming venture in 1979, and Mom was his enthusiastic supporter. Bert, the love of her life, passed away fifteen years ago after fifty-eight years of marriage. As we stood by her bedside a few days ago, we rejoiced. She had finished her race, and victory was hers to enjoy throughout eternity. We thank God for a Christian mother who taught us to pray, to love God and serve Him. After dad passed away, mom moved to Westview, Park Ridge, and Golden Ours of Grant. We as a family appreciate the excellent care she received there. Left to remember a wonderful mother and grandmother are her children: Carol and Lee Nikkel, Madrid, NE; Barbara and Roy Boese, Pincher Creek, Alberta; Ken and Lucille Baerg, Bow Island, Alberta; Terry and Randy Ensz, Ogallala, Nebraska; Barry and Cynthia Baerg, Paxton, Nebraska; and Jaqueline Susan and Eldon Dyck, Paxton, Nebraska; 28 grandchildren, 65 great grand-children. She was preceded in death by her parents, two siblings, her husband, two grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Services will be held on Sunday, July 15, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. (MST) at the Golden Plains Mennonite Church west of Madrid. Burial will be in the Madrid Cemetery. Bullock-Long Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
