Obituary From “Ottumwa Courier,” January 28, 1952: Mrs. Sabina Gettings, 68-year-old wife of the late Thomas Gettings, died Sunday at 6:30 a.m. at her home at 1402 Chester avenue. The daughter of Joseph and Mary Ruffing, she was born November 8, 1883, in Wapello county and had lived in this vicinity all her life. She was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter; and two sons, one of whom, Lawrence, was killed in Europe in World War II. Mrs. Gettings is survived by three sons, Lewis of Hedrick and Donald and William, both of Ottumwa; one daughter, Miss Ellen Gettings, at home; two brothers, Joseph and Henry Ruffing, both of Ottumwa; two sisters, Mrs. Rose Ulmer of Ottumwa and Mrs. Nora Downing of Washington, D.C., and three grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Wednesday at 8:30 a.m. at the Vaughan funeral home and at 9 o’clock at St. Patrick’s Catholic church where a requiem high mass will be celebrated by the Rev. J.J. Collins, pastor. Burial will be in Calvary cemetery. Members of the Altar and Rosary society of St. Patrick’s church will meet with friends at 8 p.m. Tuesday to recite the rosary at Vaughan’s funeral home.
