Sabra Ann Smith, daughter of Theodore and Harriet White Smith, was born near Ladora, Iowa January 1, 1872 and passed away in Palm Springs, California, October 19, 1954. She grew to womanhood in this vicinity and graduated from the Victor High School in 1889. Two of that class are still living. She was married to Thomas Warder Gortner on November 20, 1895. Six children were born to this home: Beth H. of Los Angeles, California, Ernest S. of Pewaukee, Wisconsin, Warder J. who passed away in 1949, George R. of Palm Springs, Calif., Donald C. of Storm Lake, Iowa, Ada D. of Palm Springs, Calif. Mr. Gortner preceded her in death in 1927. Mrs. Gortner united with the Methodist church here when she was a girl. She was always devoted to her church and brought up her children in the church. She lived a devoted life to her family. Besides her children, she has three grandchildren and five great grandchildren and one sister, Luna Fish of Victor and other relatives.
