Gortner, oldest son of John and Sarah Gortner, was born Oct. 25, 1870, and departed this life June 21, 1928, at Des Moines, aged 57 years, 7 months, 26 days. At the age of 12 years he moved to Kansas with his parents, residing there eight years. From there he went to Colorado, where he lived for three years, returning to Victor in 1892. At the age of 12 years he moved to Kansas with his parents, residing there eight years. From there he went to Colorado, where he lived for three years, returning to Victor in 1892. In 1895 he was united in marriage to Sabra Smith and to this union six children all of whom survive were born. He was a resident of Victor and vicinity for 30 years. The family had resided in Des Moines about two years at the time of his death. He leaves to mourn besides his widow, his mother, Mrs. Sarah D. Gortner of Des Moines, Mrs. Beth H. Christison of Grinnell, Ernest S. Gortner of Milwaukee, WI., Warder J. of Ames, Grace R., Donald C. and Ada of Des Moines, one granddaughter, Marg Ann Christison, one sister, Mrs. A. M. Foster of Racine, WI. The body was brought to Victor on Saturday, where a brief funeral service was conducted at 2:30 p.m. by Rev. F. L. Earley of Ladora at the home of Charles J. Raffensperger. Interment was made in the I.O.O.F. cemetery at Victor.
