Read More	The Edgar Sun (Edgar, NE) Fri, Jun 25, 1937 - pg 1 Sadie Carr Sadie Carr was born at Woodstock, Illinois, March 2, 1866 and went home June 17, 1937. Her early life was spent in Lynn County, Iowa; then with her parents and sister, she came to a homestead 2 1/2 miles north of Edgar in the spring of 1872. Ten years later the family moved into Edgar where her home has been for more than fifty years. In the spring of 1884 she taught her first term of district school in Nuckolls County and followed teaching as an occupation until 1907. At that time she began working in a local printing office, which work she followed until failing health compelled her to leave this field. Her two volumes of poetry, "Golden Rod" and "Rainy Day Rhymes" were published during these years. In early life she united with the United Brethren Church, later transferring to the Methodist Church in which she held membership at the time of her death. Her very deep interest in teaching Sunday school, in the work of Missions, in the cause of temperance and her loyalty to the principles of life in which she believed, marked her church life. For almost fifteen years she tenderly and faithfully made a home for her widowed mother. During the last part of her life she derived great pleasure from the remembrance of friendships she made while teaching or entertaining her friends with her poems and readings. So, at the home of her sister, when the time came for her to be with her loved ones gone before, she peacefully entered the Great Beyond. The funeral service was held from the home, Friday, June 18, 1937, at 3:00 p.m., conducted by Rev Homer B. Hix. A mixed quartette consisting of Mrs. Lester B. Dalton, Mrs. E. F. Hart, M. E. Cushing and R. E. McKinney sang, accompanied by Mrs. Lydia Phelps. S. L. Overturf, Charles Storrs, Martin Essinger, George Slonecker, W. H. Reid and B. G. Rydholm were pallbearers. Interment was made in the Edgar Cemetery. "She was never too tired to give the day To help a friend along the way Never too weary when night fall came To answer, who called her name; Cheering and helping, making life glad For the ill and lonesome, weary and sad.
