Mr. and Mrs. Weldon Michael were the only attendants for the couple. Following; a wedding trip to Washington, Mr. and Mrs. Tharp will make their home on Route One, Staunton. The bride attended school at McDowell and has a position at the Staunton Manufacturing Company. Mr. Tharp is employed at Beck and Fields Bakery. The Recorder July 7, 2000 Sadie Belle Eckard Thorpe, 69, of Staunton and a former resident of Randolph Street, died Monday, July 3, 2000 in the Augusta Medical Center, Fishersville. She was born on Sept. 8, 1930, in Highland County, a daughter of William Roy and Barbara Smith Eckard. Mrs. Thorpe was a member of First Baptist Church of Staunton. Prior to retirement, she was employed by the Genesco-Greif Companies with 28 years of service. Her husband, Willie Lee Thorpe, preceded her in death. Survivors include two daughters and a son-in-law, Brenda and Grady Swink of Staunton and Robin Thorpe Michael of Staunton; a sister, Betty Ann Rexrode of Staunton; a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Fitzgerald of Staunton; a sister-in-law, Janet Eckard of Elkton; and three granddaughters, Tiffany C. Swink, Megan M. Swink and Tera Rae Michael. A service was conducted at 1 1:30 a.m. Thursday, July 6, in the Henry Funeral Home Chapel by the Rev. Edward A. Fisher. Burial was in Headwaters Cemetery.
