Read More	Funeral Services Held For Mrs. Sadie Holland On Monday Afternoon Fatally Injured When Hit By Auto Last Friday Night ACCIDENT OCCURRED NEAR LAUREL, DELAWARE In Mount Pleasant Methodist Church Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock, in the presence of sorrowing relatives and the church filled with friends, among them many members of Chesapeake Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, and with her casket banked by lovely flowers, funeral services were held for Mrs. Sadie Sterling Holland, wife of Mr. Edward J. Holland, of the staff of State Comptroller J. Millard Tawes, with Rev. Charles M. Elderdice officiating. Mrs. Holland's death was the result of being hit by an automobile at about dusk Friday evening, a short distance below Laurel, Del., as she was returning from a visit with her mother, Mrs. Mary Sterling, and other relatives in Baltimore. She had come from Baltimore to Annapolis, and was making the trip from that point to her home here in a car driven by Mr. George R. Stevenson, also on the State Comptroller's staff. Mr. Stevenson stopped his car at a filling station below Laurel and Mrs. Holland alighted. She started to cross the road to the filling station, and was either blinded by the lights of approaching cars or believed she had time to cross the road, when she was hit by a car driven by Kenneth White a young Wicomico high school student, who was on his way to a football game at Laurel, and knocked to the road. White said that he did not see Mrs. Holland, who wore a dark suit, until it was too late to avoid hitting her. At first it was hoped that she was not seriously injured, but the Laurel ambulance was secured, she was placed in it and rushed to the hospital in Salisbury. An examination disclosed that she had suffered laceration of the head, bruises and shock. For several hours it seemed that she would survive, but at about 5:30 o'clock Saturday morning she died of her injuries. News of her tragic death shocked this community where she had lived all her life, and where she had so many warm friends, whose affection for her was deep and sincere. Mrs. Holland was held in high esteem and regarded by everyone. She possessed in great measure charm and dignity. She was quiet and yet excellent company. She had a lovely voice, and for years had entertained at public and private gatherings with her singing. With splendid qualities of gentleness and understanding she had brought pleasure and light into many lives that had been miserable and dark. With her, to help others over the rough paths of life was a joy, and her concern for the welfare of friends and acquaintances was deep and abiding. Having two very lovely daughters, who are twins, Mrs. Holland had been a devoted mother, and had seen her girls grow to womanhood, held a grandchild in her arms, and found added happiness in their happiness. With her death a life of usefulness has ended, a gentlewoman has gone to her reward, a fine person has been called away, a home is desolate, husband and children, mother and brother and sisters sorrow, yet in the minds of all of them must be the remembrance of a devoted wife and mother, daughter and sister of a dear one who lived a full life and had seen them happily married, had a useful life, even though shortened so tragically, who now rest in the presence of the loving and compassionate Father of all. Mrs. Holland had been a member of Mt. Pleasant Methodist church since 1906, and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for years. Members of the Chapter, attending the services in a body, held the Chapter service at the graveside in the Crisfield cemetery, laying different colored flowers, symbols of the Eastern Star's light, reverently on the casket as they bade their sister a last farewell. Besides her husband, Mrs. Holland is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Raymond Carey, of Princess Anne, and Mrs. Donald Spedden, of Baltimore, one grandchild, Bonnie Lynn Carey, her mother, Mrs. Mary Sterling, of Baltimore, five sisters, Mrs. J. R. Robins of Cambridge, Md., Mrs. Bertha Bourdoff, Mrs. Mildred Stokes, Mrs. Warren Garner, and Miss Katherine Sterling, all of Baltimore, and one brother, Mr. Norris Sterling, also of Baltimore.
