Rasmusson, age 74, longtime Bickleton resident, went to be with her Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ on Sunday, October 14th,, 2012 after a long-term battle with medullary thyroid cancer. Sally was born on March 26, 1938, to Miles and Dorothea (Purdin) Sheppard of Yakima, Washington. She was the eldest of four children. Sally was born on March 26, 1938, to Miles and Dorothea (Purdin) Sheppard of Yakima, Washington. She was the eldest of four children. The family would later live in Grand Coulee, Woodland and eventually Goldendale. In 1956 Sally graduated from Goldendale High School. She enrolled in St. Elizabeth School of Nursing and graduated with her RN degree in 1959. During her nursing school years she met her husband-to-be John W. Rasmusson of Bickleton. Sally and John were married on Oct. 3, 1959 at the Methodist Church in Goldendale. They lived on the Rasmusson homestead on Newell Road and farmed the Rasmusson Ranch. They had four children; Sally Jean, Linda, Barbara, and Jack. On May 3, 1983, Sally's husband John died of leukemia. For the next 30 years, Sally would continue to successfully run the family ranch. She finished raising her children on her own, ensuring that each of them obtained their four year college degree, fulfilling a goal that she and John shared for their children. Sally was a woman of faith. She enjoyed studying the Bible and was a discussion leader in Bible Study Fellowship for many years, faithfully driving to Yakima twice a week to participate in leadership. She was an active member of the Bickleton Evangelical Community Church, where she served in many leadership positions through the years. She was an Elder of the Session, taught Sunday School, led Vacation Bible School, participated in Morning Circle, Harvesters Prayer Group and Goodwill. Sally attended and led many Bible Studies and served on various church committees including the Pastor Nominating Committee. Sally was devoted to her family and loved spending time with her grandchildren. She enjoyed travel, and made annual trips to the Oregon Coast and Hawaii. Sally was a beautiful seamstress and creative and artful cake decorator. She enjoyed gardening, tending flowers, and watching birds off her back porch in Bickleton. Sally is survived by her four children, Sally J. Waltermire and husband Denny of Spokane, WA, Linda Fortmann and husband Scott of Singapore, Barbara Griffin and husband John of Lake Oswego, OR and Jack W. Rasmusson and wife Connie of Vancouver, WA. Sally has 7 grandchildren, Taylor Waltermire, Alex Fortmann, Gabriela, Isabel, and Klara Griffin, Brandon and Aaron Rasmusson. Sally is survived by her sister, Carol Van Brunt of Monroe, MI, brother, John Sheppard of Jacksonville, OR, and sister, Sandy Oberg of Tonasket, WA. She was preceded in death by her husband.
