Description	:	Services will be held Thursday, Aug. 26 at the United Methodist Church in Parker for Sam Fincher who, following a short illness, died at his farm home northwest of Chancellor on Sunday morning, Aug. 22, 2004. He attained the age of 89 years, nine months and eight days. Sam Fincher was born on a farm northwest of Chancellor on Nov. 14, 1914, the son of Frank and Teddie (Hilbrands) Fincher. He attended Home District #3 rural school and grew up there. He served in the US Army during World War II for three years and nine months where he served in C Battery, 99th Field Artillery Battalion with the 1st Calvary Division. On Nov. 30, 1945 he was united in marriage to Verna Lewis in Sioux Falls. They farmed on the home farm northwest of Chancellor where Sam lived his entire life, with the exception of the time he proudly served his country during World War II. His wife died on Apr. 19, 1990, ending a marriage of over 45 years. Besides his parents and his wife, Verna, he was preceded in death by two sons: Leonard Fincher on April 18, 1959 and Larry Fincher, Sr. on January 12, 2003; one grandson; three great-grandchildren; seven brothers and three sisters. Grateful for having shared his life are three sons and their wives: Lowell and Connie Fincher of South Haven, Mississippi, Lester and Carol Fincher of Chancellor and Lloyd and Shirley Fincher of Marion; two daughters and their husbands: Linda and Myron Langrehr and Lila and John Langrehr, all of Parker; a daughter-in-law: Linda Fincher of Marshfield, Missouri; 18 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three sisters: Elizabeth Klinghagen of Clara City, Minnesota, Rosezena Klinghagen of Lennox and Katie Butenschoen of Sioux Falls.
