Description	:	Samantha d/o Hannah [Crandall] & Solomon Calkins. Her father, Solomon Calkins, and husband John's father, Noah Kidder, served together in Bedel's unit during the Revolutionary War. Samantha & John Kidder were married in 1787 in Vermont, and their first two children were born there. The family moved to New York in 1792, where the rest of the children were born. Simeon and Hannah were born in Paris, Oneida County, New York, where the family was counted on the 1800 census. Samantha & John Kidder were married in 1787 in Vermont, and their first two children were born there. The family moved to New York in 1792, where the rest of the children were born. Simeon and Hannah were born in Paris, Oneida County, New York, where the family was counted on the 1800 census. The family was counted on several tax rolls through 1809 in Jefferson County, New York, where Elizabeth and Constant were born. For context, Jefferson County, New York was formed from part of Oneida County on 28 Mar 1805. In 1820 the family, and their neighbors the Brown's, were living in what was then Ontario County, New York. Land records show the Kidder and Brown families removed to Washington County, Indiana in the mid-1820's, where they were counted in the 1830 census. John Kidder died of cholera during the Cholera epidemic that swept through the area in the early 1830's. Samantha was living as a widow when she met and married her second husband Joel Calkins Sr, who also happened to be her grandfather's younger half-brother. After her death, Joel moved back to New York, where he later died and was buried beside his first wife, Bethiah Barrows.
