Description	:	Sam Kersey, son of DAVID and SUSAN KERSEY, died at the home of his daughter MRS. R. B. SHILLING, in this city, July 1st, at the age of 73 years, 9 months, 10 days. He was born at Terre Haute, IN, Sep 20 , 1845. He came to Iowa with his parents, June 1855, at the age of nine years. They settled about four mile northeast of town. Read More	Sam Kersey, son of DAVID and SUSAN KERSEY, died at the home of his daughter MRS. R. B. SHILLING, in this city, July 1st, at the age of 73 years, 9 months, 10 days. He was born at Terre Haute, IN, Sep 20 , 1845. He came to Iowa with his parents, June 1855, at the age of nine years. They settled about four mile northeast of town. At the outbreak of the Civil War he answered to the call of his country and enlisted in the 7th cavalry at the age of 16 years. At the close of the war he came back to Knoxville, and at the age of twenty-two years, he was united in marriage to JULIA A. CRAWFORD. He then settled down to farming. He and his wife moved to Missouri, and at the age of twenty-five he united with the M.E. Church there. They then moved back to Flagler where his wife Julia A. Kersey, died, March 17, 1880. To this union six children were born: two dying in infancy and ROSA, wife of M.A. LYONS died four years ago; MR GRANT KERSEY of Harvey, IA; MRS. R.B. SHILLING of Knoxville, and LOURETTA WRENWICK of Kansas City, MO. Then on Dec 2, 1880, he was united in marriage to MARY JANE WATERS . To this union there was six children born; JOHN and SAM KERSEY of St Maries, Idaho; MRS. REV. N.A. ORCUTT of Valley Junction, IA; Mrs. BERT WILSON of Milton,IA ; EVAN KERSEY of Tacoma, Washington and CHAS D. KERSEY, who is still in France and whose permanent home is in Auburn, Washington. He is also survived by one living sister, MRS. MARGARET FORTNER of Flagler, also eighteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Mr. Kersey was confined to his bed for about five weeks. He departed from this world with an enviable reputation and a spotless character as a husband and father and a citizen. He was loved and reverenced by all. While Mr. Kersey gave himself to the call of his country at the time of the civil war, he was well represented in this last great world war, by four sons and one daughter. Funeral services were held at the home of his daughter, MRS. R.B. SHILLING, in this city, July 3, 1919, in charge of REV. C.E. CHAPMAN, pastor of the Presbyterian Church.
