Palmer is lying at the point of death at his home southwest of town with blood poison caused by the scratch of an old hen. Obituary: Samuel B. Palmer was born in Dayton, Ohio, March 23, 1825, and died June 21, 1911, aged 86 years, 2 months and 29 days. He was married to Sarah Bates December 5, 1852. To this union eight children were born and all that are living were at his bedside except George of Blue Springs, Nebraska. He came to Burlington, Kansas in a schooner drawn by an ox team, reaching here in July, 1857. In the death of Mr. Palmer one of our oldest settlers is gone and one that is known all over the county. He was converted in boyhood and joined the United Brethren Church and has always been a hard worker in the church. As long as his health allowed he was present at every meeting and an active member in song and prayer and always trying to reach out and save some soul. He will be sadly missed in the church and in the home by young and the old but sad to say most by the aged wife that has been by his side through the many years of troubles and pleasures, celebrating their golden wedding a number of years ago. He bore the pains of his sickness with patience and was ready to go. The only regret was he had to leave mother. He could always say "I am on the Lord's side", and as he had lived he died. He cannot come back to his loved ones but they have the bright thought they can go to him. The Palmer Chapel was named for him and under its roof Rev. Stone preached the last sermon for Grandpa over the lifeless body. The deepest sympathy is extended to the grieving relatives by the many friends. The aged wife and the children extend their thanks for the many kind acts during Mr. Palmer's sickness.
