A few days later in the same newspaper: The funeral of Mrs. Sarah Palmer was held at Palmer Chapel southwest of Burlington Tuesday in charge of Rev. J.M.Rogers, pastor of the United Brethren church and the body was laid to rest in the Big Creek Cemetery. There was a large attendance at the services, friends coming from long distance to pay their tribute of respect. Sarah Bates was born in Ohio November 23, 1830 and died September 3, 1916, aged 85 years, 10 months and 20 days. She was married to Samuel B. Palmer December 5, 1852 and to this union 8 children were born. Mrs. Palmer came to Burlington with her husband in a prairie schooner drawn by an ox team, reaching here in July, 1857. In the death of Mrs. Palmer, Coffey County loses one of its oldest settlers, and one who was known all over the county and loved and esteemed by those who know her. She was converted in childhood and united with the United Brethren church and continued a hard worker in the church as long as her health permitted, working in all departments. She will be sadly missed in the church and in the home. She bore her illness with patience and was ready to go. She made her home with her son W.T.Palmer and Mr. and Mrs. Palmer deserve much credit for the care bestowed upon her.
