Description	:	from the Kemptville Advance - The community was shocked to learn of the sudden death, October 25, of Samuel Byron Johnston, lifelong resident of this district. Mr Johnston, who was 71, was recuperating from a serious illness and was progressing favourably when his sudden death occured. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Creighton Johnston of Oxford, and his wife the former Jessie A. Black, predeceased him in 1957. He is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Grace Humphreys, Kemptville; Mrs. George Norton, Hyndman, and Mrs. Charles Tompkins, Kemptville. Mr. Johnston spent his entire life in Oxford-on-Rideau township. Mr Johnston, who was 71, was recuperating from a serious illness and was progressing favourably when his sudden death occured. He was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Creighton Johnston of Oxford, and his wife the former Jessie A. Black, predeceased him in 1957. He is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Grace Humphreys, Kemptville; Mrs. George Norton, Hyndman, and Mrs. Charles Tompkins, Kemptville. Mr. Johnston spent his entire life in Oxford-on-Rideau township. He farmed for several years, and then became a drover. He was well known throughout the country for his acts of kindness and unselfish help to neighbours and the many friends he had made during his life came from all parts of Eastern Ontario to pay their last respects. The numerous floral tributes bore silent testimony of the esteem in which he was held. The funeral was held from the home of his sister, Mrs. Charles Tompkins, Kemptville, to Heckston United Church, with Rev. S. Robertson officiating. The church choir assisted in the service, and the hymn "Some Day The Silver Cord Will Break", was sung by Mrs. S. Williams. Pallbearers were Robert Brown, Andy McGinley, Dr. L.G. Coleman, Chester Armstrong, Nick Gayda and Roy Evans.
