The deceased gentleman had been in very poor health for some time, but was not confined to bed, and it is believed grief at the loss of his helpmeet, who died three months ago, hastened the end. Mr. Corbit had been spending a while at the home of his son, W.J. Corbit, merchant, of this town, but his love for his own place was so deeply grounded in his nature, that he could not be induced to remain away from it only at short intervals. On Tuesday he expressed a wish to go home and he was visited daily by some of his relatives, although it was not thought his condition was precarious as he was able to go about. STARTLING DISCOVERY Friday morning, his nephew, Claude Conley, called upon him, and Mr. Corbit asked him to return in the evening, and when the young man did so at 7 o'clock, he was startled to find the deceased lying, partially dressed, beside his bed, cold in death. Heart disease was the cause. The late Mr. Corbit was a man of scrupulous honesty, a good and helpful neighbor and one whose promise, once given. could be relied upon- he was in every sense of the ward, a faithful friend and worthy citizen. Many an interesting anecdote he told of the pioneer days of Orangeville and he always enjoyed a talk about those bygone days. The late Mr. Corbit had reached the age of 72 years. He was Presbyterian in religion and in politics, a Conservative. He was a member of the Workmen. One son, W.J. Corbit, merchant, of this town, and a daughter, Mrs. Walter Stinson of Toronto, are the only surviving members of the family. James Corbit, Dundalk, Robert of Caledon, Mrs. Alex Conley, Mrs. Jas. Keys of Orangeville, and Mrs. Bailey of Collingwood are brothers and sisters of deceased. The funeral took place to the family plot in Greenwood cemetery on Sunday afternoon and was very largely attended, the service at the house and cemetery was conducted by Rev. A. L. Burch, pastor of St. Andrew's. The bearers were Dr. Frank, Mayor McKitrick, Jas. Hewitt, Geo. Hill, William and Samuel Cruikshank.
