Thursday, May 2, 1946: "Samuel Dutler, Sr. was born on December 6, 1856, at Sevelen, Switzerland, the son of Mr. and Mrs. David Dutler. At the age of seven, he came with his parents to America and settled in Linn Cnear Cedar Rapids and lived there nearly seventeen years. They later moved to [an 80 acre] farm near [8 miles from] Exira, [where Sam farmed for 3 years]. In 1883 [December 31] he married Katie Friedrich, with whom he lived for 62 years.The first 3 years of their married life they lived on a farm between Exira and Adair. After farming for nearly 38 years in Guthrie and Audubon Counties, the Dutlers retired in 1919 and came to Audubon where they lived until his death Friday, April 26 at the age of 89 years, 4 months, and 20 days. Of the eleven children, two died before their father and nine are still living. Mr. Dutler is survived by his widow and the following children: Samuel, Jr. Guthrie Center;Mrs. John Baikey, Audubon; August and George, Des Moines; William, Mankato, Minn., Mrs. Earl Benton, Exira; Mrs. Chris Petersen, Waterloo; Mrs. Fred Fett, Adair: Helen, Audubon. There are so 34 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 3 sisters who survive. Additional information on Page 4 of same paper: Funeral services: Our Saviour's Lutheran Church last Sunday at 3 p.m. Samuel Dutler died at his home on 123 Pacific, Audubon, at 6:30 p.m. Friday after several weeks of illness. Rev. Robert Grote of Villisca formerly of Audubon conducted services both at the church and at the Audubon Cemetery.
