Description	:	Civil War Veteran Co H 17th Iowa Volunteer Infantry From Military Records: Burdick, Samuel E. Age 18. Residence Attica,IA Nativity Ohio. Enlisted March 1,1862. Mustered April 11, 1862. Re-enlisted and re-mustered April 22, 1864. Mustered out July 25, 1865, Louisville, Ky. Service of the 17th Iowa Infantry included the Siege of Corinth,MS(May 1862), battle of Iuka (Sep 19) and battle of Corinth (Oct 3-4). The Union was outnumbered more than 3 to 1 by attacking Confederate forces (approx 10,000) at Battle of Corinth. However the Union still held the hard won ground at the end of the day. Duty at Tilton,GA Jul – Oct 13 )., On Oct 13,1864, Tilton ,GA was attacked and the majority of the regiment captured. What was left of the regiment joined Sherman at Savannah,GA (Jan 1865).
