Description	:	S. E. McNary, a well known and respected resident of this vicinity, died at his home on Pike street, Houston, last night at 7:30 o'clock. He had been ill for the past nine weeks, suffering from bronchial pneumonia. Funeral services will be held Monday afternoon at 3 o'clock In the Houston United Presbyterian church, In charge of the pastor, the Rev, W. F. Harkey. Interment will be in Oak Spring cemetery. Mr. McNary was born in North Strabane township, September 8, 1857, being a son of Samuel and Margaret Templeton McNary, He resided with his parents on the farm until 1888 when he was married to Louella Morgan, and the couple took up their residence in Houston. He was active In the affairs of this section during his lifetime, and had served as assessor in North Strabane and Chartiers townships, and also as burgess of Houston for two different terms, after the town was incorporated. He united with the Chartiers United Presbyterian church early in life, where his father was a ruling elder for many years, but had been a member of the Houston church for many years. He is survived by, the following children: Miss Martha McNary, at home; Mrs. R. V. Plunkett of Ambridge, and Mrs. F. S. Galbraith of Houston, and by four grandchildren. He also leaves two sisters and one brother, Mrs. William McPeake of Houston, Mrs. O. I. Gilbert of Jackson, Mich., and David T. McNary of South Jefferson avenue, Canonsburg. Married Lizzie Louella Morgan, of Canonsburg, born 1867. He located in Houston, being appointed Burgess of that thriving village Feb. 7th, 1904, in which position he still officiates. In politics he has always identified himself with the Republican Party. He was an earnest and consistent advocate of the incorporation of Houston into a borough, and is always in the advance line for improvements." "His business has always been of a varied character, farming and as salesman introducing farm machinery into the community, baling hay, straw, etc. His church connection has for many years been in the First United Presbyterian congregation of Houston. To them were born 4 daughters: Martha Jeanetta, Hazel Louella, Elsie Marie, and Helen Gertrude." Samuel Edgar McNary may be among those buried at Chartiers Cemetery in or near Houston or Midland, PA. I have read that it is reputed to be mostly occupied by black folks, but the McNarys were known to be abolitionists and perhaps that may be why black folks were being buried there. This is only speculative on my part!!! Don't turn this into a legend, just making sure folks check THIS cemetery for McNary's as well! I will remove this paragraph upon confirmation or contradiction proof.
